Visit the Peak District Mining Museum in Matlock Bath and discover the life of the Derbyshire mineral miner both above and below ground. In the museum you can explore the past through interactive, hands-on displays, through video and exhibits ranging from the large water pressure engine in the centre of the museum to tallow candles used by the miners. There is also a large collection of mineral and rock samples in the geology corridor. For the young at heart we have our famous climbing shaft and tunnels whilst younger children are kept busy on the mouse hunt. A joint ticket also takes you to Temple Mine where you can go on a guided tour of real fluorspar mine. It is a bit muddy and wet and you will have to bend in places - it was a hard life being a miner. After the mine tour you can pan for minerals and take home anything you find but remember that not all that glitters is gold.
