The Poets and City Museum Liestal, known as Dichter- und Stadtmuseum Liestal or DISTL, was inaugurated on July 7, 1946. Located in the Swiss town of Liestal, the museum is dedicated to regional and nationally renowned authors. It is a significant cultural institution that offers insights into the literary history of the region.
In 2001, the Poets and City Museum Liestal relocated to a new building at Rathausstr. 30. This new location houses several floors of exhibits, providing ample space for the museum's extensive collection. On the ground floor, visitors will find a bookstore and the museum's cash desk, adding to the convenience of their visit.
The collection of the Poets and City Museum Liestal includes a wide range of objects, photos, manuscripts, and prints from the possession of notable figures such as Emma and Georg Herwegh, J. V. Widmann, Carl Spitteler, and Hugo Marti. These items offer a unique insight into the lives and works of these authors, making the museum a valuable resource for those interested in literature and history.
