The Polo Museale di San Francesco is a museum situated in the town of Montefiore dell'Aso. It is housed in the former convent of San Francesco and was inaugurated on October 7, 2007. This museum is a significant cultural and historical site, offering visitors a glimpse into the past through its various exhibits and collections.
The museum complex is composed of the convent of San Francesco, a first cloister dating back to 1303, and a second adjacent cloister from 1544. These structures, after years of abandonment and other uses, were completely restored in the early 2000s and now serve as a museum and archival conservation space.
One of the highlights of the museum is the "Carlo Crivelli" room. Here, visitors can view six panels of a precious Renaissance polyptych created by the painter Carlo Crivelli around 1471. These panels are what remained in Montefiore dell'Aso after the dismemberment that occurred in 1859.
The museum also hosts the "Adolfo De Carolis" Museum, which was inaugurated in the 1950s. This museum houses a collection of sketches and oils that were collected and donated by Francesco Egidi, a philologist and former mayor of the municipality. The collection has been further enriched over the years thanks to additional donations, mostly from the heirs of the painter Adolfo De Carolis.
