The Potawatomi Zoo, located in South Bend, Indiana, is a 23-acre zoological park that was established in 1921. It is the second-oldest zoo in Indiana and is nestled in Potawatomi Park between the St. Joseph River and the Grand Trunk railroad in the east side neighborhood of River Park. The zoo is home to over 400 animals and attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.
The Potawatomi Zoo is home to a diverse range of over 400 animals. The zoo is actively involved in over 56 Species Survival Plans, contributing to the conservation of endangered species. Some of the animals you can see at the zoo include African lions, Amur leopards, snow leopards, southern white rhinoceros, and many more.
The Potawatomi Zoo features several exhibits that represent different regions of the world. These include the Africa section, which is home to animals such as lions, zebras, and okapis; the Asia exhibits, which include Amur tigers and red pandas; the former Australian Outback exhibit, which now houses a giraffe's African savannah exhibit; and the Americas section, which includes American bison and North American river otters among others.
