The Provincial Palace, also known as Palacete Provincial, is a significant historical site located in the heart of Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas. This centenary building has been a witness to many important events related to the social and political life of the people of Amazonas. The Provincial Palace is home to a group of five diverse museums. These include the Archaeology Museum, which presents evidence of the material culture of ancient human groups who lived in the area; the Amazonas Museum of Image and Sound (MISAM), which houses material relating to cinema, photography, music, television, radio, and other types of visual arts technology; the Bernardo Ramos Museum of Numismatics, which includes more than 17,000 items from Bernardo de Azevedo da Silva Ramos' personal collection; the Tiradentes Museum, which presents the history of the Amazonas Military Police; and the Pinacoteca do Estado do Amazonas, which preserves a collection of approximately 1,000 works created by around 300 artists from Amazonas, Brazil, and abroad.
The Provincial Palace underwent significant restoration work in 2005 and was reopened to the public in 2009. Since then, it has become a popular destination for visitors interested in exploring the museums, art collections, and cultural events that take place within its walls. The palace offers free public visits, making it an accessible option for tourists of all budgets.
