Saksun is a popular destination among tourists for its unique features. The village boasts a sandy beach that was created by a storm, adding to its natural charm. The picturesque location of the village, surrounded by high mountains and a fertile valley, is another attraction. Additionally, the village houses a museum in the form of a 17th-century farmhouse. This museum can be opened and explained by a local upon request, providing an insight into the history and culture of the area.
The village church of Saksun holds a unique history. Originally located in Tjørnuvík, the church was dismantled and transported over a hiking trail to its current location in Saksun. It was re-consecrated on the third Sunday after Trinity in 1858. This hiking trail over the mountains still exists today and is considered one of the most beautiful on the Faroe Islands. The church's exterior walls are made of stone, a departure from the old wooden church construction. Only the interior walls, support beams, and the altar still remind of the church from Tjørnuvík.
