The Forge Museum Nieuwkoop is located in picturesque, watery Nieuwkoop. A unique example of cultural and industrial heritage, this museum is dedicated to the history of the many smithies, which stood at Zuideinde in Nieuwkoop. Visitors here learn about the origins of the forges and the lives of the blacksmiths and their families. On opening days a blacksmith is at work, forging objects according to the traditional craft. And if you would like to try it yourself you can join in the forging under the guidance of the blacksmith. History This unique museum opened its doors in 1982 and was an initiative of the people of Nieuwkoop. The forges have been very important to the life and economy of Nieuwkoop. The Nieuwkoop home forges had their absolute heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries. Visiting the museum The museum consists of an authentic living area, which is connected to the forge with two smith fires. A tour guide will show you how the blacksmiths and their families worked and lived. There is a blacksmith at work and you can join in the forging. In the living area, which is partly an exhibition room, you can see, among other things, the original box bed and various objects made by the blacksmiths. The forge museum is open all year round on Thursdays from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. For groups of 8 people or more, you can also make an appointment outside the regular opening hours. The museum provides various packages for companies, schools, a family day, retirees and groups of friends. A group visit can be combined with boating on the Nieuwkoop lakes or a Solextour over the dikes with a museum visit with coffee and apple pie. We have a cooperation with our neighbors for coffee, lunch or drinks. Email us for more information: smederijmuseumnieuwkoop@gmail.com
