The Sørhaugøy fyr is a coastal lighthouse situated on the small island of Sørhaugøy, which is part of the Vibrandsøy archipelago. This archipelago is located off the municipality of Haugesund, in Rogaland County, Norway. The lighthouse is managed by the Norwegian Coastal Administration, known as Kystverket in Norwegian.
The original Sørhaugøy fyr was established in 1846 on the small island of Sørhaugøy, just 400 meters from Haugesund. It is strategically located in the Slettå Sea at the northern entrance of the Karmsund strait, which leads to the port of Haugesund. This location made it a crucial navigational aid for ships entering the port.
The old Sørhaugøy fyr has been a cultural heritage site since 1998. It was sold to shipowner Knut Knutsen, who generously donated it to the Karmsund Folkemuseum in the 1970s. For many years, the lighthouse's dependency was rented to the Haugesund Sports Dykkerklubb as a clubhouse. After a period of restoration, the building has been returned to the museum, where it continues to be a significant part of the local cultural heritage.
