The Starr Family Home State Historic Site is a significant historical location in downtown Marshall, Texas. Spanning 3.1 acres, the site is managed by the Texas Historical Commission. It has been recognized for its historical importance, being listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1986.
The Starr Family Home State Historic Site includes several structures that were used by the Starr Family. The most notable among these are the main house, also known as the Starr Home, Maplecroft, and Rosemont Cottage. Rosemont Cottage is particularly significant as it is the only remaining part of Rosemont, the antebellum plantation home that once stood behind Maplecroft.
James Frank Starr commissioned the construction of Maplecroft, the main attraction of the park. The Starr home, built in 1871, is a two-story, frame structure that showcases a modified late Greek Revival style with some Victorian elements. The craftsmen, including shipwrights, and building materials were sourced from New Orleans and shipped to Marshall.
