Stevns Lighthouse, also referred to as Højerup Lighthouse, is situated to the north of Stevnsfortet. The site is home to two lighthouses, the first of which was constructed between 1816 and 1818, while the second was built from 1877 to 1878. The latter is currently active and is the more prominent of the two structures.
The new Stevns Lighthouse, which was put into operation in 1878, was constructed as a 27-meter tower using limestone from the nearby cliff. The lighthouse is equipped with a rotating lens apparatus, which originally functioned as a clockwork mechanism with weights that needed to be wound up.
The area surrounding the lighthouse, which was previously closed to the public due to the presence of military installations, has now been largely reopened. Visitors are also allowed to tour the lighthouse. Until 2011, the Navy maintained a lookout post at the base of the lighthouse. This building has since been converted into a museum.

Stevns Lighthouse, located in Højerup, Denmark, offers visitors a blend of historical significance and scenic beauty. The lighthouse, perched on the Stevns Klint cliff, provides panoramic views of the Baltic Sea and the surrounding landscape. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved structure and the opportunity to climb to the top for breathtaking vistas.
The site also includes a small museum that showcases the lighthouse's history and the role it played in maritime navigation. While the exhibits are informative, some visitors note that they are relatively basic and could benefit from more interactive elements or English translations.
The natural setting of the lighthouse is a major draw, with the dramatic chalk cliffs of Stevns Klint (a UNESCO World Heritage site) adding to the overall experience. Many visitors combine their trip to the lighthouse with exploring the nearby Stevns Klint Experience Center and the old Højerup Church.
Access to the lighthouse involves a short walk, which most find pleasant, though it may be challenging for those with mobility issues. Some visitors mention that the opening hours can be limited, especially during off-peak seasons, so it's advisable to check in advance.
Overall, Stevns Lighthouse offers a good combination of historical interest and natural beauty. While it may not be an extensive museum experience, it provides a worthwhile visit for those interested in lighthouses, maritime history, or simply enjoying spectacular coastal views.
