Pocklington’s unique Gardens have justifiably been called “a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown” and are home to a National Collection of nearly a hundred varieties of Hardy Water Lilies which bloom on the Upper and Lower Lakes between mid-June and August. Events include an annual Tulip Festival, Sunday brass band and musical concerts, and children’s events held throughout the spring and summer. The Stewart Museum within the Gardens houses artefacts which were collected by Percy and Katharine Stewart who owned Burnby Hall and travelled the world in the early 1900’s.

Stewart's Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum Reviews

Stewart's Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

Stewart's Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum in Pocklington, England, offers visitors a pleasant blend of natural beauty and historical exhibits. The gardens are the main attraction, featuring well-maintained grounds and a series of lakes known for their collection of hardy water lilies. These lakes provide a serene atmosphere for strolling and observing various wildlife, particularly the koi carp.

The museum, though smaller in comparison to the gardens, houses an interesting collection of artifacts collected by Major Percy Stewart and his wife during their world travels. While some visitors find the museum displays informative, others note that they could benefit from updating and more detailed explanations.

The site offers good accessibility with paved paths, making it suitable for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful ambiance and find it an ideal spot for relaxation or a family outing. The tea room receives positive mentions for its refreshments and service.

However, some visitors feel that the admission price is a bit high, especially during seasons when the water lilies are not in bloom. Additionally, a few reviewers mention that signage and information about the plants could be improved to enhance the educational aspect of the visit.

Overall, Stewart's Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum provides a tranquil escape with its beautiful gardens and interesting, if somewhat limited, museum exhibits. It's particularly enjoyable on a sunny day when visitors can fully appreciate the outdoor spaces.
