The Bangor Town Hall, previously known as The Bishop's Palace, is a municipal building located on Ffordd Deiniol in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. This structure, which is now utilized as a museum, is a Grade II listed building. It was originally commissioned by the Bishop of Bangor, likely Arthur Bulkeley, as his residence and was completed around 1546. The building has undergone several extensions and renovations over the years, and it ceased to be the bishop's residence in 1900.
The Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, previously located in The Canonry in Tan-y-Fynwent, moved to the former Town Hall. The building reopened as the Storiel, a name derived from the Welsh words 'stori' (story) and 'oriel' (gallery), on 30 January 2016. This move has allowed the museum to display its collection in a more spacious and historically significant setting.
The collection at the Storiel includes items gathered by Bangor University since its inception in 1884. One of the notable pieces in the collection is a Roman artifact known as the 'Segontium Sword', which was discovered at the Roman fort of Segontium. This artifact, along with the rest of the collection, offers visitors a unique insight into the history and culture of the region.
