The Strohdachhaus Muhen, also known as Strohdachhaus Lüscher, is one of the oldest thatched houses in the canton of Aargau. It is located at Hardstrasse 3 in Muhen. The roof of the house is completely covered with hand-threshed straw, making it a unique architectural feature. This historical building offers a glimpse into the past and showcases the traditional building techniques of the region.
Since 1954, the Strohdachhaus Muhen has not been inhabited. It was purchased by the Aargau Association for Homeland Protection in 1961. Unfortunately, on the day of the official handover, the building caught fire due to arson and was largely destroyed, except for the living part. However, with the help of the federal government, the canton, and the homeland protection, the cultural monument was rebuilt in the years 1962/63. Since then, it has been open to the public for viewing. Inside the house, visitors can explore a rural living museum, offering a unique insight into the rural life of the past.
