The Entomological Collection of the Municipality of Coto Brus (often referred to as the Museo de Insectos de Coto Brus or City Hall Entomology Collection) is one of Costa Rica's most extensive biological exhibits. Located in San Vito, the canton's administrative center, this collection serves as both a scientific repository and an educational tourist attraction. The specimens were originally accumulated by a private German collector and later donated, establishing a permanent public resource housed directly within municipal facilities. Exhibits include meticulously preserved and labeled cases of colorful tropical butterflies, rare giant beetles, arachnids, millipedes, wasps, and endemic moths native to the Neotropics. Educational Purpose: Designed as a bridge between scientific research and community engagement, the facility regularly hosts school visits, tourists, and researchers to raise awareness about tropical ecosystems and biodiversity conservation.
