The Historical Society of Frankford, situated in the Frankford neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, is a museum and historical society. It is a non-profit organization that was established to promote the study of history, particularly the social history and traditions of Frankford and its surrounding areas.
The Historical Society of Frankford is housed in a 2.5-story building made of stone, brick, and steel. This fireproof building, constructed in 1930, provides a safe and secure environment for the society's valuable historical collections.
The Historical Society of Frankford's collections are entirely related to the Frankford section of Philadelphia. These include deeds, leases, grants, and releases from 1681-1887, aldermen's court dockets, accounts, and school records from 1824-1925, and account books of various business enterprises, including the Oxford-Provident Building and Loan Association, the earliest in the United States, from 1831-1863. The collections also include records of fire companies from 1793-1871, Philanthropic Society and Lyceum records, Civil War records, historical sketches, genealogical material relating to local families, and miscellaneous personal and business correspondence.
