The National Motor Museum, originally known as the Montagu Motor Museum, was established in 1952. It is located in the picturesque village of Beaulieu, nestled in the heart of the New Forest in Hampshire. The museum was founded by Edward Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, as a tribute to his father, who was a pioneer of motoring in the United Kingdom.

The Museum's Collection

Since its inception, the museum's collection has grown significantly. By 1972, the collection had exceeded 300 exhibits. Today, the museum boasts a display of around 285 vehicles that have been manufactured since the late-19th century. These exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of motor vehicles over the years.

Additional Attractions at the Museum

In addition to the vast collection of motor vehicles, the museum offers a variety of other attractions. These include the National Motor Museum Monorail, a veteran bus ride, a playground for children, and a restaurant. Visitors can also explore a substantial part of the Palace House and grounds, including the partially ruined Beaulieu Abbey. These additional attractions make the museum a comprehensive destination for a day out.
