The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, also known as Miraikan, is a museum dedicated to showcasing Japan's advancements in science and technology. Opened in 2001, it is located in the Odaiba District of Tokyo. The museum is easily accessible from downtown Tokyo, with a journey of about 20 minutes on the Yurikamome driverless fully automated transit system.
Miraikan offers a variety of exhibits that highlight Japan's scientific and technological achievements. These include real-time displays of data from seismometers across Japan, a section of rock core taken from the CretaceousโPaleogene boundary, and Asimo, the Honda robot. Visitors can also see a model of a maglev train and the Geo-Cosmos high resolution globe, which displays near real-time events of global weather patterns, ocean temperatures, and vegetation cover, among other geographic, scientific, and socioeconomic topics.
