The Tulsa Zoo, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, spans across 84 acres and is a non-profit organization. Although it is owned by the City of Tulsa, it has been privately managed by Tulsa Zoo Management Inc since 2010. This unique arrangement allows the zoo to benefit from both public and private resources, ensuring its continued operation and maintenance.
Exhibits at Tulsa Zoo
The Tulsa Zoo offers a variety of exhibits that cater to different interests. The Lost Kingdom is inspired by ancient Asian cultures and houses animals such as Malayan tigers and Komodo dragons. The Valley of the Elephant is a 2.5-acre area dedicated to the zoo's elephants, complete with an Elephant Interpretive Center. The Robert J. LaFortune Wild Life Trek focuses on animals from around the world and their adaptations to different environments. The Rainforest exhibit recreates Central and South American rainforests, while the Chimpanzee Connection provides an up-close look at chimpanzees. Lastly, the African Plains exhibit features animals like giraffes, lions, and white rhinos.
Children's Zoo at Tulsa Zoo
The Children's Zoo at the Tulsa Zoo offers a unique experience for young visitors. It features a contact yard where children can get up close with a variety of animals, including Nigerian dwarf goats, Southdown sheep, and Anglo Nubian goats. The Children's Zoo also includes the Australian Outback Area, which houses red kangaroos, and an exhibit dedicated to North American river otters.
