The University of Antioquia Museum is a public cultural institution that is situated on the campus of the University of Antioquia in Medellín, Colombia. It is a significant cultural center that houses over forty thousand museum objects spread across four collections. The museum is one of the most visited in Medellín, offering a variety of programs and activities that enhance its educational, cultural, and social functions.
Collections at the University of Antioquia Museum
The University of Antioquia Museum is home to four distinct collections: Visual Arts, Natural Sciences, University History, and Anthropology. Each collection offers a unique perspective on Colombian culture, history, and natural heritage. The Visual Arts collection includes around 3,179 pieces in various techniques such as painting, graphic work, photography, and contemporary sculpture. The Natural Sciences collection aims to contribute to the dissemination of Colombian environmental resources, especially fauna, and raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation and conservation. The University History collection contains heritage elements and representative pieces from different historical moments of the Antioquia department and specifically its Alma Mater. The Anthropology collection preserves around 25,000 objects of Colombia's cultural heritage, making it the first collection with the largest number of archaeological pieces in the country.
