Reichenstein Castle, located in the town of Reichenstein in the municipality of Tragwein in the district of Freistadt in Upper Austria, is a semi-ruin of a castle that was converted into a chateau. The castle is situated on a narrow, steeply sloping rock ridge above a river loop of the Waldaist. The castle offers a unique blend of historical architecture and natural beauty, making it a fascinating destination for tourists.
Upper Austrian Castle Museum at Reichenstein Castle
Since 2013, Reichenstein Castle has been home to the Upper Austrian Castle Museum and a "Natura 2000" information center. These are housed in an architecturally exceptional semi-underground museum building. The museum presents focus topics and the time from the 11th to the 17th century. It examines "castle and dominion", the people and their living environments within the castle, as well as the architectural appearance of castles and the functions associated with the castle rooms and areas.
Cultural Events at Reichenstein Castle
In addition to its historical and architectural significance, Reichenstein Castle also serves as a vibrant cultural center. It hosts an array of events throughout the year, including annual art exhibitions, music events, theater performances, various children's programs, and sculpture projects.
