The submarine is open to visitors every day from May 1 to September 30, offering a unique opportunity to explore a piece of naval history.

Authenticity of the USS Cod

Today, the USS Cod is one of the finest restored submarines on display. It is unique in that it is the only American submarine that has not had stairs and doors cut into its pressure hull for public access. This means that the USS Cod is the only submarine of the World War II fleet that is still intact, offering visitors a truly authentic experience.

USS Cod has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The USS Cod Submarine Memorial in Cleveland offers visitors a chance to explore a genuine World War II submarine. This hands-on experience allows guests to climb through the actual hatches and see the living and working conditions of the submarine crew. Many visitors appreciate the well-preserved state of the submarine and the opportunity to learn about naval history. The volunteer staff, often including veterans, are generally praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm in sharing information about the vessel. However, some visitors note that the tight spaces and steep ladders may be challenging for those with mobility issues or claustrophobia. The museum provides a realistic glimpse into submarine life, but some guests mention that additional exhibits or interactive displays could enhance the educational experience. Overall, the USS Cod is considered a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts and families, offering a unique perspective on naval warfare and submarine technology.
