The Vega–Bray Observatory is an astronomical observatory that is owned and operated by the Astronomers Inn. It is situated on a small hill that overlooks the San Pedro River Valley, just to the east of Benson, Arizona. This location provides a clear and unobstructed view of the night sky, making it an ideal spot for stargazing and astronomical observations.
The Astronomers Inn houses a variety of astronomical equipment, including binoculars and both refractor and reflector telescopes. These telescopes range in size from 6 to 20 inches in diameter, catering to different levels of astronomical interest and expertise. The telescopes are either computerized for ease of use or can be operated manually for those who prefer a more hands-on experience.
The Vega–Bray Observatory is a privately-owned establishment that is dedicated to educating the public about astronomy. It is conveniently located just outside the town of Benson, making it about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Phoenix. This makes it a feasible day trip for those staying in or around Phoenix.
The Astronomers Inn, which operates in conjunction with the Vega–Bray Observatory, was a family-run bed and breakfast managed by Sara and Jason Brown. It featured four astronomically-themed rooms: the Egyptian, the Garden Room, the Galaxy, and the Astronomers Studio. Each room was designed with a unique theme, providing a unique and immersive experience for guests.
