At the request of King Leopold II, Henri Maquet designed these Venetian Galleries in 1900. It is a covered connection between the royal chalet and a large salon. When the royal family no longer used its residence by the sea, the city of Ostend received the complex under concession. Today, the Venetian Galleries are an exhibition space.

Venetiaanse Gaanderijen has 1 rating.

The Venetiaanse Gaanderijen, or Venetian Galleries, in Ostend, Belgium, is a notable architectural landmark along the seaside promenade. This structure, reminiscent of Italian Renaissance design, offers visitors a blend of history and art. The galleries host temporary exhibitions, making it a cultural space rather than a traditional museum. Visitors appreciate the beautiful architecture and its prime location overlooking the sea. The changing exhibitions receive mixed reviews, with some finding them interesting and others less impressed. The lack of permanent collections means experiences can vary greatly depending on the current exhibit. Some visitors note that the space could be better utilized. The galleries are praised for their free entry and as a shelter from bad weather while walking along the promenade. However, some find the exhibitions limited in scope. Overall, the Venetiaanse Gaanderijen is valued more for its architectural beauty and location than for its content, making it a pleasant stop during a seaside stroll in Ostend.
