The Church of Santo Amaro, also referred to as the Chapel of Santo Amaro and Chapel of Santa Maria da Graça, is a Christian temple situated in the Largo de Santo Amaro, in the parish of Beja (Santiago Maior and São João Baptista) in Beja. Today, it forms part of the Visigothic section of the Regional Museum of Beja. This historical monument, which has been classified as a National Monument since 1936, is one of the few preserved temples of High Medieval architecture in Portugal.
The Church of Santo Amaro stands as one of the few preserved temples of High Medieval architecture in Portugal. It plays a significant role in the ongoing process of re-evaluating traditional concepts of Visigothic art. For a long time, it was considered a 5th-century church, but as we get to know the Christian communities under Islamic rule better, a dating in the 10th century is taking shape, through the Mozarabs (Christian communities living in areas dominated by Muslim power) of Beja.
