The World Forestry Center, located in Portland, Oregon, is a nonprofit educational institution that was established in 1964. The actual building, which is situated near the Oregon Zoo in Washington Park, opened its doors to the public in 1971. The center was initially known as the Western Forestry Center, but its name was changed in 1986 to reflect its global focus on forestry.

Renovation and Interactive Exhibits at the World Forestry Center

After undergoing a $7 million renovation that lasted six months, the World Forestry Center reopened on June 30, 2005. The renovation resulted in new interactive exhibits that focus on the sustainability of forests and trees, not just in the Pacific Northwest, but also around the world. These exhibits provide visitors with an engaging and educational experience about the importance of forests and their sustainability.

World Forestry Center has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The World Forestry Center in Portland offers visitors an educational experience focused on forests and their importance. The museum features interactive exhibits that showcase different forest ecosystems and sustainable forestry practices. Many visitors appreciate the hands-on nature of the displays, which can be engaging for both children and adults. The center provides information on local and global forest issues, though some reviewers mention that certain exhibits may feel dated.

The museum's location in Washington Park is often cited as a positive, allowing visitors to combine their trip with other nearby attractions. However, some visitors note that the center is relatively small and can be explored in a short amount of time, which may not justify the admission price for everyone.

Overall, the World Forestry Center receives mixed reviews. While many visitors find it informative and enjoyable, especially for those interested in environmental topics, others feel it could benefit from updates and expansion to provide a more comprehensive experience.
