The Yorkshire Waterways Museum, located in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, was a renowned institution that won multiple awards. It was a significant cultural and historical site in the region, offering visitors a unique insight into the heritage of Yorkshire's waterways.
One of the key features of the Yorkshire Waterways Museum was the grade II listed Tom Pudding hoist. This hoist was used to unload small tub boats carrying coal from South Yorkshire at Goole Docks, where the coal was then transferred to ocean-going vessels. This historical artifact provided a tangible link to the region's industrial past.
In early May 2019, due to ongoing funding shortfalls, it was announced that the Yorkshire Waterways Museum and its associated charity, The Sobriety Project, were insolvent. As a result, the museum closed on 15 May 2019. This unfortunate event marked the end of an era for the museum and its contributions to the local community and tourism.
