Auburn is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, located in the central part of the state. Founded in 1714 as part of Oxford, the town was officially incorporated in 1778 and was initially named Ward, after American Revolutionary War general Artemas Ward, before being renamed to Auburn in 1837.
The town experienced significant development during the industrial revolution, particularly with the arrival of the railroad in the mid-19th century. Today, Auburn maintains its small-town character while benefiting from its strategic location near major transportation routes, including the Massachusetts Turnpike.
The town places importance on preserving its historical heritage while supporting modern community development through its various cultural and educational institutions.
