Bayreuth is a historic city in northern Bavaria, Germany, known primarily for its rich cultural heritage and strong association with the composer Richard Wagner. Founded in the 12th century, the city features impressive Baroque and Rococo architecture, with the UNESCO World Heritage Site Margravial Opera House being one of its crown jewels.

The city gained international prominence in the 18th century under the patronage of Margravine Wilhelmine of Prussia, and later in the 19th century when Wagner established his own opera house, the Festspielhaus, where the annual Bayreuth Festival celebrating his works continues to this day. Beyond its musical fame, Bayreuth is home to the University of Bayreuth, established in 1975, and serves as an important cultural and economic center in Upper Franconia. The city's museums and cultural institutions preserve both its rich historical legacy and its ongoing artistic traditions.
