Burgemeester Bloemersstraat 1, Borculo, The Netherlands
This museum has 1 rating.
I wasn’t expecting too much entering this unprepossessing building. The collection lies on the first floor, assembled by a geologist who has visited practically every nook and cranny on the planet but not, surprisingly, the UK! Judging by the exhibits, he really knows his stuff. The first room houses fossils – logs from the Arizona Desert, one cut and polished to highlight the growth rings, fishes in great detail and much much more besides before entering the anteroom with a mammoth’s skull to one side and an extinct bear’s skeleton on the other, but the main section holds the gems, some hexagonal types a metre long and 150 cms in diameter! Absolutely stunning!
