St. George's Basilica
(Bazilika svatého Jiří)
The St. George's Basilica in Prague was originally built around 920 by Vratislaus I of Bohemia. It is the second oldest church in Prague and belongs to the best preserved Romanesque sights in the Czech Republic and is home to tombs of many members of the royal Premyslid dynasty. The church was rebuilt in Romanesque style in the first half of the 12th century. The baroque facade of St. George's Basilica dates from the 17th century. It is a part of the National Gallery and it has housed many fine examples of Bohemian Art from the 19th century. It is now used as a short-term exhibition space and a concert hall.
