Exhibition 'Art Brut – An Unbiased Perspective' in Koppelkerk - art & culture

From November 20, 2026, through January 24, 2027, various artists will exhibit works at the Koppelkerk in Bredevoort that can all be grouped under the term “Art Brut”: art in its most direct and raw form.

Art Brut is a form of visual art that defies easy categorization or classification under a single label. Created by artists who express what lies within them, without concerning themselves with any particular conception of art. They do not seek attention or recognition, but their work certainly deserves it.

Art Brut Biennial in Hengelo
In 2021, the exhibition “Insider Art” took place at the Koppelkerk, and the new exhibition is a continuation of that. This time, the selection was curated in collaboration with Elvira van Eijl, the driving force behind the Art Brut Biennial in Hengelo. This extensive exhibition featured many works in all forms: humorous, colorful, or, conversely, overwhelming in shades of gray; expressive, subdued, unsettling. This experience comes to life on a smaller scale at the Koppelkerk.

The Artists
The exhibition sought to curate a selection from the Art Brut Biennale in Hengelo that does justice to the diversity and power of this art movement. This has resulted in the inclusion of works by the following artists:
Catharine Pearls
Gildehuis Collective
Lotte van Sloten
Willie Beckmans
Authenktic
Carla van Slooten
Stephan Reisig
Amber de Motte
Bob van Brunschot
Mailute Vaitkiene
