Exhibition 'Criminal Coiners: Life and Death in Wild West Yorkshire' in Heptonstall Museum

Heptonstall Museum is reopening after 3 years of closure, following a community asset transfer from Calderdale Council. Now volunteer managed as a charity, the 'Friends of Heptonstall Museum' reopens 26 May 2023.

Our opening exhibition ‘Criminal Coiners: Life and Death in Wild West Yorkshire', tells the story of the notorious Cragg Vale Coiners.

We have a weaving room with authentic replica loom and weaving materials. History of the infamous Cragg Vale Coiners and an interpretation of the Hartley’s home.

King” David Hartley’s grave lies in spitting distance from the Museum’s doors, amidst the atmospheric Graveyard.

The Museum is featured in the recent BBC2 production of “The Gallows Pole” as “Barbs”.

The Friends also host numerous events, relating to its wide-ranging local history, including regular poetry events. Summer 23 will see ballad singers, authors and artists. Check our socials and website for tickets and info. We welcome support via donations and membership.
