Exhibition 'Exhibition: Fluistergoed' in Koppelkerk - art & culture

From July 3 through August 23, the work of Jacqueline van Bergeijk will be on view in the upper hall of the Koppelkerk. She creates sculptures, installations, and collagesโ€”primarily made of fabric; of textiles marked by life.

Textiles as wordless observers.
Textiles provide us with warmth, protection, and status. They tell us who we want to be, how we live, or what we have experienced. The figurative and abstract elements tell their own story. Fabric as an echo of a personal past or collective experience.

Jacqueline van Bergeijkโ€™s work draws inspiration from all kinds of old fabrics, textiles marked by life, such as lace doilies, old handkerchiefs, or gloves found on the street. In her hands, they evoke a whole world of ideas and many stories. She creates sculptures, installations, and collages. Her work has its own visual language with figurative and abstract elements. It appeals to the viewerโ€™s associations and memories. In terms of content, Jacqueline seeks a balance between vulnerability and strength. Her work is not loud but rather cautious, vulnerable, soft: WHISPERING GOODS.

The artist
Jacqueline van Bergeijk was a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Because of her affinity for all kinds of scraps and fabrics, she pursued training as a costume designer and seamstress alongside her work and family life; she sewed clothing and, for many years, took great pleasure in teaching creative sewing classes. To explore whether textiles could be used in autonomous art, she studied visual arts at the Nieuwe Akademie Utrecht, took a masterclass with Frans Megens in Nijmegen, and completed the Upgraders in Art program in Arnhem. Since 2010, she has worked as an independent visual artist in her own studio. She is a member of Galerie De Ploegh in Amersfoort and the Platform Beroepskunstenaars Wageningen. She regularly exhibits at art fairs, in galleries, and in museums throughout the country.
