Really fake

This October, see Kasteel de Haar through a new lens. Follow the “Realle fake” trail and challenge yourself to decide whether something is true or false, real or fake.

It’s often claimed that Kasteel de Haar is “fake” because it wasn’t built in the Middle Ages and looks so new. The blend of different time periods and styles in its architecture and interior can make it hard to place the castle in historical context. Was the central hall once an open courtyard? Are the tapestries originals or replicas? Is the silverware medieval?

A Critical Eye

During the “Really fake” trail, visitors are invited to critically examine the origins and authenticity of various rooms and objects in the castle. After casting their votes, they’ll find out the correct answers along with explanations.

History Month

This intriguing trail is part of the “Month of History.” The theme, “Really fake,” was chosen to reflect the current age of fake news, conspiracy theories, and misinformation, where it’s no longer clear what’s real and true. As a participant in the Month of History, Kasteel de Haar ties this theme to its own collection, encouraging visitors to become more aware of its background and diversity.

Practical Information

The “Really fake” trail is available in October and is included with the purchase of a castle ticket. Kasteel de Haar will share the voting results via its social media channels, offering a surprising insight into the origins of the castle. For more information and tickets, visit kasteeldehaar.nl.
