The Artziniega Ethnographic Museum, situated in the town of Arceniega in the province of Alava, was initiated in 1977 by a group of young individuals who organized an exhibition of antique objects. This event was a success and served as a stimulus for the systematic collection of items related to the trades known in the Arceniega area and its region, with the idea of preparing a permanent exhibition.

The Museum's Spacious Setting

In 2004, the exhibition was moved to the old school of the Carmelites, a large historic building rehabilitated to house the Museum. The museum boasts 1700m² of exhibition space distributed in 17 large rooms, plus another 2000m² outside. This spacious setting allows for a comprehensive and immersive exploration of the exhibits.

The Museum's Cultural and Historical Display

The museum showcases the ancient way of life in the Basque Country until the arrival of industrialization. The central exhibition is divided into two floors, with the lower floor displaying rural life and trades, while the upper floor showcases urban life. This provides a comprehensive view of the historical and cultural evolution of the region.
