The Asian American Arts Centre (AAAC) is a non-profit organization situated in the Chinatown neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Established in 1974, it is one of the earliest Asian American community organizations in the United States. The Centre is dedicated to presenting the ongoing developments between contemporary Asian and Asian American art forms and Western art forms through various exhibitions, performances, and public education.
Since 1989, the AAAC has accumulated a permanent collection that contains hundreds of contemporary Asian American artworks and traditional folk art pieces. This collection provides a rich and diverse representation of Asian American art, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the cultural heritage and artistic expression of Asian Americans.
In addition to its permanent collection, the AAAC also maintains an Artists Archive. This archive documents, preserves, and promotes the presence of Asian American visual culture in the United States since 1945. It serves as a valuable resource for those interested in the history and development of Asian American art and visual culture.
