Opened in 1844, the Berlin Zoological Garden is Germany's oldest and best-known animal park. More than 1500 different species make it an educative place to visit. The Zoo has many unique animals, including polar bears, pandas, and penguins and it organizes engaging shows and feedings. Due to its limited size, it is easily walkable even with small children. Being one of the most visited zoos in the world, it can get crowded in peak season. Be sure to arrive as early as possible.

The Berlin Zoological Garden, located in the heart of Berlin, Germany, is a well-regarded attraction that offers visitors an extensive collection of animal species in a spacious and well-maintained environment. Many visitors appreciate the zoo's commitment to conservation and education, evident in its informative exhibits and breeding programs for endangered species.
The zoo's layout is praised for being easy to navigate, with clear signage and well-designed enclosures that attempt to mimic the animals' natural habitats. Visitors often highlight the diversity of animals, from big cats and primates to birds and reptiles. The elephant enclosure and the hippo viewing area are frequently mentioned as impressive exhibits.
While most reviewers find the admission price reasonable given the size and quality of the zoo, some mention that food and beverages inside can be expensive. It's often recommended to bring your own snacks or plan for a picnic in the designated areas.
The zoo's cleanliness and the apparent well-being of the animals are consistently noted positives. However, during peak seasons, some visitors report that popular exhibits can get crowded, potentially impacting the viewing experience.
The Berlin Zoological Garden also receives compliments for its beautiful landscaping and historical architecture, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. Many visitors suggest allocating at least half a day to fully explore the zoo, with some recommending a full day to see everything at a leisurely pace.
While generally very positive, some reviews mention that a few older enclosures could benefit from updates to meet more modern standards. However, this is often balanced by acknowledgment of ongoing improvements and expansion projects.
Overall, the Berlin Zoological Garden is widely regarded as a high-quality zoo that offers an educational and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages, making it a popular attraction in Berlin.
There were many animals missing : we didn’t see any bears, no wolves, no rhino’s, no kangaroos, no pingouins, no ostriches. The aquarium closes at six pm but no entrance any more after 5 pm which wasn’t mentioned. So we missed the aquarium and we’re here disappointed by that.
