The Botanical Garden of Saint-Pierre was not only home to a wide variety of rare and exotic plants but also served as a conservatory for commonly used food plants (fruits and vegetables) in the Antilles. This made it a significant resource for the study and preservation of plant species, contributing to the understanding and appreciation of the region's biodiversity.
The Botanical Garden of Saint-Pierre was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Pelée on May 8, 1902. However, the work carried out in the garden did not end there. Its legacy continued in the new experimental gardens established in Fort-de-France, where the propagation of plant species and the experimentation of new cultivation methods continued.
