Cancho Roano is an archaeological site situated in the municipality of Zalamea de la Serena, in the province of Badajoz, Spain. This site is known for being the best preserved Tartessian site, dating back to at least the sixth century BCE. The site is located three miles from Zalamea de la Serena in the direction of Quintana de la Serena Quintana, nestled in a small valley along the stream Cagancha.
Excavations at Cancho Roano, led by John Maluquer de Motes, started in 1978 and continued until 2001. The site was declared a National Monument in 1986, further highlighting its historical significance. Today, the site, along with an interpretation center, is open to the public, offering visitors a chance to explore and learn about this ancient Tartessian site.
