Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves has 1 rating.
The Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves in Lisbon, Portugal, is a small but interesting museum housed in the former residence of ophthalmologist and art collector Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves. The museum showcases a diverse collection of Portuguese decorative arts from the 18th and 19th centuries, including furniture, ceramics, and paintings.
Visitors appreciate the well-preserved Art Nouveau architecture of the building itself, which adds to the charm of the experience. The museum's intimate setting allows for a close-up view of the exhibits, providing insight into the lifestyle of the Portuguese upper class during that era.
The collection of Chinese porcelain is often highlighted as a standout feature, with some pieces dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The paintings on display, mainly by Portuguese artists, offer a glimpse into the country's artistic heritage.
However, some visitors find the museum relatively small and may feel it lacks the breadth of larger institutions. The limited information provided in languages other than Portuguese can be a drawback for international tourists. Additionally, the museum's location, while in a nice residential area, is slightly off the main tourist path, which some might find inconvenient.
Despite these minor issues, many visitors find the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves to be a pleasant and educational experience, offering a more personal and intimate look at Portuguese art and culture compared to larger, more crowded museums in Lisbon.
