The Hornos Castle, a 13th-century fortress, is situated in the village of Hornos, nestled within the Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park in Jaén, Spain. This historical site is a testament to the complex border disputes that took place in the region from the 12th to the 14th century. The castle's primary role was to protect the population and relay messages from the Guadalquivir high valley transmitted by the Bujarcaiz and Bujaraiza Castle towers. It is located at the highest point of the rocky hill on which the village is built.
Since 2012, the Hornos Castle has been home to a Museum and Astronomical Observation Center, known as the Cosmolarium. The castle had to close its doors due to the covid pandemic but reopened in Easter 2022. Visitors can now enjoy guided tours, participate in various activities, and even partake in public night observations. The castle's terrace houses a small observatory used for this purpose, offering a unique experience for astronomy enthusiasts.
