The Convent of Grace, a national monument in Lisbon, is situated in a location that offers panoramic views over the city and the Tagus River. This historic site belonged to the Order of the Hermits of Saint Augustine, also known as the Order of Saint Augustine, and was known as the Order of Gracians in Portugal. The convent dates back to the early days of the Portuguese nation, having been founded in the 13th century.
After the extinction of religious orders, the Convent of Grace was transformed into a barracks that housed various army units. Today, it is part of the 'Revive' program, a project by the Portuguese state that facilitates the opening of heritage sites to private investment for the development of tourism projects. This initiative has led to the convent being granted to the Sana group for fifty years, with plans to invest 30 million euros to establish a 5-star hotel with 120 rooms.
The interior of the Convent of Grace is a testament to its rich history and artistic heritage. Visitors can admire the 16th, 17th, and 18th-century tiles, the gilded woodwork of the Rococo altars, and the 18th-century sculptures of the chapels. The Baroque decoration of the sacristy, with the allegorical ceiling painted by Pedro Alexandrino de Carvalho, the large Relics table, and the tomb of Mendo de Fóios Pereira, are also of significant interest.
