The Clark Planetarium is a unique combination of a planetarium and a science museum. It is conveniently located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, within The Gateway. This location makes it easily accessible for tourists visiting the city. The planetarium was opened in April 2003, replacing the historic Hansen Planetarium.

IMAX Theater and Shows at Clark Planetarium

The Clark Planetarium features an IMAX certified big screen theater, offering a variety of space-related shows. The Northrop Grumman IMAX Theatre at Clark Planetarium emphasizes science and nature documentary programming, with both 3-D and 2-D films. The theater underwent a major renovation in November 2010, which included the installation of digital projectors, a new screen, new seats, and a new sound system.

Free Exhibits at Clark Planetarium

The Clark Planetarium offers 10,000 square feet of free exhibits, providing a wealth of knowledge and entertainment for visitors. Among these exhibits is "Science on a Sphere," a computer animation globe created by NOAA. Another notable exhibit is "Newton's Daydream," an ambitious audio-kinetic sculpture created by artist George Rhoads.

Moon Rock Sample at Clark Planetarium

The Clark Planetarium is one of the few institutions worldwide to have an authentic Moon rock sample. This sample, on permanent loan from NASA, was obtained from the Apollo 15 mission. It is displayed in a special exhibit that shows the Apollo Moon landings and video footage of the astronauts collecting the displayed sample rock.
