The Colorado Railroad Museum is a non-profit organization situated on a 15-acre property in Golden, Colorado. This location is not only scenic but also historically significant, as it is where Clear Creek flows between the North and South Table Mountains. The museum was established in 1959 with the aim of preserving the rich history of Colorado's railroad era, particularly the state's pioneering narrow-gauge mountain railroads.

Exhibits and Displays at the Colorado Railroad Museum

The museum building itself is a replica of an 1880s-style railroad depot, providing visitors with a glimpse into the past. The exhibits feature original photographs by pioneer photographers such as William Henry Jackson and Louis Charles McClure, as well as paintings by artists like Howard L Fogg, Otto Kuhler, and Ted Rose. Additionally, models of locomotives and railroad cars, crafted in the one-inch scale by Herb Votaw, are also on display.

Train Rides and Special Events at the Colorado Railroad Museum

The museum boasts a large collection of 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge rolling stock. On special event days, known as "Steam Up days", the museum provides narrow-gauge train rides. This offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience a ride on a historic narrow-gauge train, adding an interactive element to their visit.

    Employees and Directors are trash. Messy grounds and the basement is moldy vents are gross. Hard to get respectful people. Collections director rude. Volunteers are amazing though. Not much to do for kids or adults.
