Golden is a historic city located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Jefferson County, Colorado. Originally established during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in 1859, the city served as the territorial capital of Colorado until 1867. Today, Golden maintains much of its Old West character while being a modern center for education and culture.
The city is home to the Colorado School of Mines, a prestigious public research university focused on engineering and applied sciences. Golden also has significant cultural importance as the location of the Coors Brewery, one of the largest breweries in the world, and the Colorado Railroad Museum. The Clear Creek flows through the heart of the city, creating a scenic backdrop for the downtown historic district, which features well-preserved 19th-century architecture. The city's museums and cultural institutions reflect both its mining heritage and its ongoing commitment to scientific advancement.
