The Cuevas de Fuentes de León is a karstic complex situated in the southern part of the Spanish province of Badajoz. This site was officially declared a natural monument on July 25, 2001. The caves are located in the southeast of the municipal term of Fuentes de León, bordering the province of Huelva. The caves cover an area of about 200 hectares.
The caves of Cuevas de Fuentes de León are of high fragility, well-preserved, and contain uncommon formations. They are considered significant in Extremadura as they are one of the few examples of such geological formations in the autonomous community. The caves are known for their spectacular speleothems (chemical deposits by precipitation of calcium carbonate in various forms) and the biodiversity in the surrounding environment.
The natural monument of Cuevas de Fuentes de León includes five caves and two chasms: Cueva del Agua, Cueva de Masero, Cueva de los Postes, Cueva del Caballo, Cueva de la Lamparilla, Sima 1 and Sima 2. Each of these caves and chasms has unique features and formations, making them a fascinating destination for tourists interested in geology and natural history.
