The Casteelse Poort is the centre for the cultural history of Wageningen. By displaying paintings, photographs, architectural models and other ancient objects, the museum illustrates the history of the city by the Rhine. There are two permanent exhibitions. ‘The History of Wageningen’ illustrates five thousand years of local history, with special focus on the ‘rijkslandbouwschool’. The war at Wageningen is discussed in ‘The Peace of Wageningen 1945’. In World War II, the city was located at the frontline.
