The Durant House, also known as the Durant-Peterson House, is a historic residence located in the unincorporated St. Charles Township, Illinois, near the city of St. Charles. This house has been recognized for its historical significance and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
The Peterson family owned the Durant House until 1934. It was then sold to the Sheldon family, who later sold it to the Kane County Forest Preserve District in 1964. The district decided to restore the house as a historic site and furnished it with 19th-century furnishings to maintain its historical authenticity.
The Durant House is open to the public for free, although a donation is suggested. This is made possible by the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley, who manage the property.
