The Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus is situated in the southern part of the former Cottbus airfield. It is managed by the Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus e. V. association, which has been dedicated to preserving the regional aviation history and the aviation technology of the GDR that was no longer used after the political change.
The Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus was established in 1990 with the founding of an association of the same name. The museum was opened to the public in 1994, offering a unique insight into the regional aviation history and the aviation technology of the GDR.
The Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus boasts a collection of about 40 aircraft and helicopters. In addition to these, the museum also displays ground service equipment, drop weapons, and motor vehicles. This diverse collection provides a comprehensive overview of the aviation history and technology of the region.
The Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus conducts regular events such as model exhibitions and museum tours. During these tours, visitors have the opportunity to inspect the cockpits of various aircraft. This interactive experience allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the aircraft and their operation.
