The Garrotxa Museum, also known as Museu Comarcal de la Garrotxa and Museu d’Art Modern d’Olot, is an art museum located in the Catalan city of Olot. Established in 1943, the museum is housed in a neoclassical villa from 1854 in the 'Parc Nou' of Olot, donated by the Sureda family to the city. Since 1981, the museum has been part of the Museu Comarcal de la Garrotxa network and is currently located in the Old Hospice of Olot.

Art Collection at the Garrotxa Museum

The museum offers a significant collection related to the Olot School of painting, featuring outstanding sculptures by Miquel Blay, Josep Clarà and Joaquim Claret. Additionally, it houses drawings and paintings by important artists of Catalan Modernism, Postmodernism and Noucentism. One of the most impressive pieces is the large anti-war painting 'La Càrrega' (The Charge, The Storm) by Ramon Casas, also known as 'Barcelona 1902'.

Art History Tour at the Garrotxa Museum

The museum provides a memorable tour through the art history of the city, particularly offering a comprehensive overview of the works of the 'School of Olot'. The tour begins with baroque nativity figures by sculptor Ramon Amadeu, followed by impressive landscape paintings by the Vayreda brothers, founders of the School of Olot, and the great pedagogue of this landscape painting school, Josep Berga i Boix. The tour concludes with works by post-war artists who continue to influence the art scene in the city and throughout Catalonia.
